The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds retreat back to Ohio after the Cubs won the Field of Dreams game on Thursday night. They got the day off on Friday and now continue their series at Great American Ballpark. The Cubs are 46-65 after their win on Thursday and the Reds are 44-67.

Adrian Sampson makes the start for the Cubs and Graham Ashcraft goes for the Reds in Game 2 of the three-game series. This is the ninth meeting of the year between these two teams at the bottom of the NL Central.

Cubs vs. Reds Prediction and Pick

This is a very even matchup between two pretty awful teams in the NL Central. They are very familiar with each other, but still have to play 11 more times this season.

Things are pretty even on the mound too, Adrian Sampson has a 3.83 ERA and a 3.71 fielding independent pitching in almost 50 innings pitched. Graham Ashcraft has pitched 80 innings this year and worked to a 3.94 ERA and 4.02 FIP. Though the Reds have won Ashcraft’s last two starts and the Cubs have lost both of Sampson’s last two outings.

Though I don’t know that there is really an advantage to be found there, the main discrepancy is how they’ve played lately. Chicago has won five of seven games while the Reds have lost four straight. The difference there is that Chicago had the luxury of playing the Nationals over that stretch and the Reds had to face the Mets.

Really this is a tough one to read, but I feel a little bit better about Chicago even on the road.

Lean: Cubs -105
