The New York Yankees continue to shred opposing teams as we head deeper into June.

The Yankees became the MLB’s first 40 game-winner this week following sweeps of the Angels and Tigers, and don’t appear to be slowing down. They are currently the only team in the league with a win percentage over .700 and lead the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays by seven games each in the AL East. Things are going well in the Bronx, to say the least.

Meanwhile, the fourth-place Cubs continue to struggle after losing three games in a row to the Cardinals and Orioles. The Cubs are 3-4 so far in June and will have the displeasure of facing the Yankees for the first time this season today. This three-game series will be a quick kick in the pants for the Cubs as the Yankees are likely to roll through them on their home turf.

Cubs vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick

Wade Miley is a big reason I am down on the Cubs in this game. The veteran southpaw makes his fourth start of the year for Chicago after being sidelined for the first month of the season with an elbow injury. He also missed the last two weeks with a shoulder strain.

Miley enters today’s game with a 3.38 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 16 innings in his second return from the IL. While that doesn’t look too bad on the face of things, Miley’s numbers tell only half of a story. His first start was a disaster after giving up three runs in three innings against the Padres. But, Miley turned it around in his next two games, going 13 innings and giving up only three earned runs. The problem is those two games came against two of the worst offenses in the MLB. Miley shut out the Pirates over seven innings and gave up three against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Miley is now facing down the barrel of one of the best offenses in baseball. The Yankees rank first in home runs, second in slugging and fifth in runs per game. Miley is also giving up a lot of walks with five against the Padres alone. The Yankees rank fifth in drawing walks and could be a real nightmare matchup for Miley.
