Dalvin Cook Shoulder Injury Not a Concern for Oddsmakers in Vikings vs. Lions
By Ben Heisler
After news came out Monday afternoon that Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has a dislocated shoulder and could miss several games, oddsmakers at WynnBET looked at the news ticker, likely collectively shrugged their shoulders, and went back to setting lines for the rest of the slate.
To put it bluntly, the spread against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field hasn't changed a bit, and won't change as a result of this particular injury.
Despite Cook's dislocated right shoulder and torn labrum, the Vikings remain 7-point road favorites on the road as the Lions seek their first win of the season. Minnesota hosted Detroit back in Week 5 as near double-digit favorites, but walked away with a two-point 19-17 win on Greg Joseph's fourth field goal of the game.
Part of the reason for the lack of line movement? The Vikings were in a similar situation ahead of this matchup. Alexander Mattison got the start for Minnesota and rushed 25 times for 113 yards in the game. In Mattison's two starts he's rushed an average of 25.5 times for 112.5 yards and 6.5 receptions on 7.5 targets. Those numbers are actually superior to Cook, who has averaged 85.9 yards/game this season.
Cook actually battled the same injury back in 2019 and struggled to get going, running for only 89 yards on 27 carries in two games before going back to the bench to rest up.
Minnesota plays their second straight game on the road this week in Detroit after falling to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday 26-34. Via WalterFootball, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is 8-3 ATS in second consecutive road games, but he's 0-2 ATS as a favorite following a loss.
