David Montgomery's Quote About Justin Fields Mirrors What All Bears Fans Feel

The Chicago Bears had a disheartening Week 1, outclassed by the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, 34-14.

It’s even more painful for the Bears because the team saw glimpses of the upside that Justin Fields presents compared to veteran Andy Dalton.

Dalton was a pedestrian 27-of-38 for 206 yards and an interception, while Fields completed both of his passes for 10 yards and added a rushing touchdown.

On the first drive of the game, Fields got a red zone snap and nearly tossed a touchdown, only for Dalton to come back in and throw the aforementioned pick.

Running back David Montgomery voiced high praise for the No. 11 pick in the 2021 Draft, and seemingly shared the same sentiment Bears fans are certainly having after the loss.

“J-Fields is special, he already has a natural aura to himself that already changes the flow of how things go.” Montgomery said about Fields’ touchdown run. “He’s a great kid, [a] humble human being, so when it happened it was very refreshing.”

When will the Bears turn to Fields? It’s unclear at the moment, but it feels like a matter of time.

Dalton posted an average depth of target of 4.5 with more than 76% of his passes short of the 1st down marker, per Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus. The Bears need to unleash Fields and use his big arm to utilize the likes of wide receivers Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney.

Oddsmakers at WynnBET still have Fields in the mix for Offensive Rookie of the Year despite being the second string quarterback for now, aware that it’ll likely be sooner rather than later that the Ohio State product takes first team snaps for good.

Fields is +600 as of Monday afternoon to win the award.
