Deandre Ayton Poised for Bounce-Back Performance in Game 4 of NBA Finals
By Peter Dewey
The Phoenix Suns desperately missed center Deandre Ayton in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, as the former No. 1 overall pick played just 24:23 due to foul trouble.
Ayton has been dominant this postseason for Phoenix, as he’s posted 13 double-doubles so far and has scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games. However, with Dario Saric out for the season due to a torn ACL, the Suns were unable to weather the storm against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 3 with Ayton on the bench.
For the series, the Suns are minus-14 with Ayton on the bench, but they are plus-17 when he’s in the game. Ayton leads the NBA in win shares this postseason at 3.2, and the Suns are plus-90 with him on the court this postseason.
Translation: Phoenix needs Ayton to have a big game on Wednesday night.
Luckily for the Suns, WynnBET is expecting just that. Ayton is projected to put up 28.5 combined points and rebounds in Game 4 with the over (-116) as a slight favorite to the under (-112). He also has some intriguing props for points and rebounds on their own.
Ayton’s points line is set as a pick’em (-110) at 16.5, and his rebounds are set for 12.5 with the over (+100) as the underdog to the under (-130). This postseason, Ayton is averaging 16.3 points per game on 69.7 percent shooting from the field while grabbing 11.9 rebounds per night.
Those numbers are impressive to say the least, and it has me thinking that the over is the way to go on both his points and combined points and rebounds prop. Ayton, while playing his lowest minute total of the postseason, still had 18 points in Game 3, and the Suns will want to keep him involved after getting blown out on Sunday.
As for rebounding, I’m a little more cautious on Ayton’s prop considering he’s gone over 12.5 rebounds just seven times in 19 playoff games. While the +100 odds are enticing, I think the combined points and rebounds prop is a better value considering he could reach it by hitting just above his playoff averages.
In the Finals, Ayton has dominated the Bucks in the pick-and-roll. If he and Chris Paul can get that going early, I’d expect him to have a monster performance as the Suns try to steal a game in Milwaukee.
