The 2021 Heisman Trophy contenders are starting to separate themselves from the pack.

Three players have shorter than 10-1 odds, but Desmond Ridder is a legitimate candidate, currently 20-1 at WynnBET, as one of the biggest movers in the market.

Quarterback of the No. 8 Cincinnati Bearcats, Ridder's odds were +5000 before the season and +2500 ahead of the team's 42-7 win over Murray State.

Now, Ridder has a marquee matchup that will warrant serious Heisman attention if he shows out against Indiana on the road this Saturday.

Odds to Win the Heisman Trophy

Bryce Young - Alabama - +260

Spencer Rattler - Oklahoma - +600

Matt Corral - Ole Miss - +600

Desmond Ridder - +2000

This market is starting to sort itself out, but the distance between Ridder and the likes of Rattler and Corral is much closer than the odds indicate. As for other potential contenders, they are trending in the wrong direction.

Georgia’s J.T. Daniels missed the team’s Week 2 win over UAB, 56-7. He sits at +3000.

Meanwhile, C.J. Stroud’s odds dropped from +1200 to +4000 following Ohio State’s 35-28 loss to Oregon at home.

Ridder has the best value on the board as Cincy attempts to become the first Group of 5 school to make the College Football Playoff. The Bearcats are 200-1 to win the National Championship, according to WynnBET.

However, we have seen CFP stalwarts like the aforementioned Buckeyes and Clemson drop a game already, leaving the door open for Ridder and co. to make a top four push.

In two games, Ridder has completed over 72% of his passes for 538 yards while throwing six touchdowns and an interception. A strong showing against a Big Ten foe like Indiana can push the 6'4" senior closer to the top three and further from the middle.

This is the best time to buy Ridder as a legitimate Heisman candidate considering he is still being priced as a distant fourth, but is capable of slashing his odds in half come Saturday. Not to mention, he has another high profile matchup on the road against No. 12 Notre Dame on Oct. 2.

It’s worth noting that WynnBET also has Ridder as +700 to finish in the top three of the Heisman voting, another great spot to buy if Cincinnati finishes the regular season undefeated for the second straight year.
