The Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers will face off on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. EST in Week 2 of the NFL’s preseason.

It will actually be the Steelers third preseason game, as they participated in the NFL’s Hall of Fame Game against the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the preseason.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will make his first appearance of the preseason, but he will likely be without one of his top targets after Chase Claypool suffered a minor ankle injury on Tuesday.

The Lions, who lost to the Buffalo Bills 16-15 in their preseason opener, are major underdogs in this game, but as preseason football goes, anyone can look good (or bad) based on how their backups play.

Here are how the odds stack up at WynnBET:

Lions vs. Steelers Spread, Odds and Over/Under

Spread:

Steelers -5.5 (-110)

Lions +5.5 (-110)

Moneyline:

Steelers: -255

Lions: +200

Over/Under: 35.0 (Over: -115/Under: -105)

Steelers vs. Lions Betting Trends

  • The Steelers are 2-0 against the spread this preseason.
  • Mike Tomlin’s teams are 23-34 against the over in his preseason career.
  • The Lions are 1-0 against the spread this preseason.
  • Detroit was the fifth-best over team in the NFL last season.

Steelers vs. Lions Prediction and Pick

Even though Roethlisberger is playing, I don’t think Tomlin will play him for long, especially after the Claypool injury that occurred in practice this week.

The Steelers are massive favorites after they covered against the Eagles and the Cowboys, and it’s mainly because their backup quarterbacks, Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph, are two of the better ones in the NFL.

Buffalo played all of it’s bench players in Week 1 and still came away with a win over Detroit, so give me the Steelers to cover the 5.5-point spread in this one rather than the -255  juice on the moneyline.
