The Miami Marlins watched their seven-game winning streak fade away over the weekend after losing to Seattle on Sunday. They followed that up with the opposite of a bounce-back game and lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of their three-game series. The Marlins were not expected to be that good, but they are in second place in the NL East and entered this series 8-2 in their last 10 games.

The Diamondbacks continue to win games despite having an objectively terrible team. Especially at the plate where Arizona has the worst batting average in the league at .185. They remain the only team with a BA below .200.

Diamondbacks vs. Marlins Prediction and Pick

To say that the Diamondbacks bats are having a rough go would be a huge understatement. Frankly, im shocked their record is as close to .500 as it is. In Addition to ranking dead last in hitting for average, the D-Backs are among the bottom five teams in the MLB in at-bats per game, runs per game, hits per game, extra-base hits, strikeouts per game, and slugging percentage. So, pretty much everything.

Oh, and Arizona’s pitching is terrible too with a 25th ranked ERA of 3.04 and 27th ranked WHIP at 1.07. However, veteran superstar Madison Bumgarner is getting the start for Arizona today. He has been not only the best pitcher on this team but one of the best in the league through his first five starts. MadBum has a 1.17 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in his first 23 innings of work this year. He hasn’t given up more than one earned run in any start this year.

Facing off against Bumgarner will be Elieser Hernandez making his fifth start for Maimi. He enters this game with a 5.75 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. This would be concerning against most teams but the D-Backs don’t pose much of a threat at the plate.

I predict a low-scoring game here. I think Bumgarner continues to roll and the Diamondbacks continue to be ineffective on offense.

Pick: UNDER 7.5
