The Arizona Diamondbacks season may be effectively over, but they've quietly been one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball.

They're 8-2 in their last 10 games, and they're coming off a series win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Now, they'll play against a wild card team, the San Diego Padres, in a three-game series.

Let's take a look at the odds for tonight's opening game.

Diamondbacks vs. Padres Odds, Run Line, and Total

Run line:

  • Diamondbacks +1.5 (-110)
  • Padres -1.5 (-110)

Moneyline:

  • Diamondbacks +200
  • Padres -240

Total:

  • 8 (Over -115/Under -105)

Diamondbacks vs. Padres Prediction and Pick

The story of the game will be the Diamondbacks starter, Ryne Nelson, who will be making his Major League debut. The 24-year old was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2019 draft. He hasn't shown his best stuff in AAA this year, sporting a 5.43 ERA through 26 starts.

He'll hope to fare better in the Majors, but he has a tough battle tonight in the Padres.

Since Aug. 1, the Padres rank eighth in the Majors in OPS at .738.

San Diego will be trotting out Blake Snell, who has been fantastic for them after a rough first half of the season. Since July 1, he has a 2.81 ERA in 11 starts.

As great as the Diamondbacks have been recently, San Diego should win this game with ease.

Pick: Padres -1.5 (-110)
