Did Michigan State's Kenneth Walker III Add His Name to the Heisman Race?
We’re going to see some major shifts on the odds board after this weekend’s college football action, especially on the list to win the Heisman Trophy.
Oklahoma’s quarterback, Spencer Rattler, who entered the season as the +450 betting favorite to win the award, had a subpar outing against Tulane in which he threw two interceptions. His performance has left an opening for other players across the country to gain some ground on him.
There are also players who didn’t even have their names on the odds list who could see them added after Week 1. One of those names is Michigan State’s running back Kenneth Walker III.
Michigan State upset Northwestern on Friday, 38-21, and the junior running back was undoubtedly the MVP of the game. He rushed for 264 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries, averaging an eye-popping 11.5 yards per rush. That’s a Heisman stat line if I’ve ever seen one.
Walker III’s name wasn’t among those brought up in the Heisman discussion before the season, and that’s reflected by the fact that WynnBET didn’t have his name listed among the preseason betting odds. If you wanted to bet on Walker III, you would have had to bet on “the field” at +1000, which means you were betting on any player that wasn’t included on the odds list.
There’s still a lot of football left to be played, but Walker III did enough to, at the very least, get added to the list ahead of Week 2.
The Michigan State Spartans are set to take on Youngstown State next week, which should give the stud running back another opportunity to pad his numbers.
By the way, how about our very own Peter Dewey calling the Michigan State upset? I hope you tailed him.
