Dinelson Lamet Injury Update Is Concerning for Padres
The San Diego Padres had their eight-game win streak snapped last night to the Arizona Diamondbacks who themselves snapped a 24-game losing streak on the road.
The upset was in large part due to starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet allowing six hits and four earned runs in the first 2.1 innings for the Padres. To make matters worse, Lament left the game with an injury after his velocity had dropped. Lamet has been the topic of injury concerns dating back to last year, but if he misses any significant time it will be a huge blow to the Padres.
Despite being 46-33, the Padres sit in third in the competitive National League West, and WynnBET has their odds set at +240 to win the division, behind only the Dodgers (-225).
A majority of the Padres success this season is thanks to their phenomenal pitching that they’ve received from both their station rotation, and their bullpen. San Diego ranks second in the Majors in team earned run average at 3.15.
If Lamet’s injury is serious enough for him to spend time on the IL, that opens up a significant hole in the Padres rotation.
Limet has a 3.67 ERA this season, which has been a significant step back from last year’s 2.09 ERA which made him finish fourth in the NL Cy Young voting. While his ERA hasn’t lived up to his 2020 success, he still has the third best earned run average among Padres starters.
San Diego will likely look to Ryan Weathers to fill the gap, who was recently sent back down to their AAA affiliate after struggling in the early parts of June.
The Padres are expected to avenge their Saturday loss to the Diamondbacks, as WynnBET has them set as massive -300 (bet $300 to profit $100) favorites against Arizona on Sunday night. Yu Darvish is set to get the start across from Zac Gallen.
