A classic rivalry is renewed tonight in San Francisco. We get the west coast version of Yankees-Red Sox for the second time this season. The Dodgers swept a two game mini series earlier in the year.

Tonight, LA hands the ball to the man with the highest ERA in their rotation. Which is Walker Buehler with a 3.84. Buehler easily has his highest ERA of his career. San Francisco goes with Jakob Junis who comes in with a 2.51 ERA.

The Dodgers are 6.5 games up on the Giants who sit in third out west. This series is an opportunity for San Fran to catapult themselves into the race for the division

Dodgers vs. Giants Prediction and Pick

The Giants have won Junis’s last three starts and he pitched six innings only allowing two hits and one run his last time out. Junis has not provided length in his starts, six innings has been his cap, but he has been the Giants best starter in those innings.

Walker Buehler is experiencing the most extended struggles of his career.  His whiff rate on his 4-seam fastball has gone down each of the last two years from 26% in 2020 to just 12.6% now.  His usage on that pitch has also dropped considerably, now relying more on a cutter.  Buehler seems to be struggling acclimating to his new repertoire.  Last outing he only lasted 2.1 innings and gave up five earned runs.

That’s not the only reason I’m leaning towards the Giants tonight.  In San Francisco’s last seven games they’ve alternated loss/win.  Since the first game of their series with the Marlins, it has gone L, W, L, W, L, W, and last night was an L to the Rockies.

That’s interesting but probably not enough to sell you. Well how about this pattern from the Dodgers. Three straight losses to the Pirates, then two wins over the Mets. Followed by three straight losses across the Mets and White Sox series.  Then, the Dodgers won their last two.

The Dodgers are due for another loss and if the pattern holds, the Giants are going to win tonight.  Is this the dumbest betting strategy you’ve ever heard? Probably, but I’m riding with it tonight.

Pick: Giants +135
