The Los Angeles Dodgers took a revenge win from the Philadelphia Phillies last night after losing three of four against the Phils last weekend. It was a brutal series for a team expected to compete for a title this year. While the Dodgers are a far better team across the board, they are the underdogs on the road in Game 2 of this weekend series. I have to say, right off the bat, that I find this very surprising even with a bit of a shaky arm on the mound for LA. The Dodgers are 26-12, lead the NL West and have the second-best record in the entire league. It’s not often we get the bet the Dodgers at plus money and it’s a very tempting spot to side up with LA.

  • Phillies: -1.5 (+152)

Total:

  • Total 9 (Over -110/Under -110)

Dodgers vs. Phillies Prediction and Pick

I assume the main reason for the Dodgers getting plus money odds is their starter, Mitch White. He enters this game with a 4.82 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 9 ⅓ innings. I think the other reason for these odds is that the Dodgers are properly banged-up right now on the pitching side of things. LA has four relievers and five starting pitchers out this weekend, which could be a major issue if White can’t go more than a couple of innings. Based on his recent history, that is exactly the outcome I expect. The guy has pitched less than ten innings in five appearances. This is also his first start of the season and only the fourth of his career. White has one of the best offenses in the league to back him up, so all is not lost.

Right-handers match up well against the Phillies, and the Dodgers have the depth to win this game. As far as the rest of the weekend goes, it’s hard to say. Yet I think the Dodgers get it done tonight thanks to a superior offense against a struggling Aaron Nola.

Pick: Dodgers ML +110
