Dodgers vs. Rockies Prediction and Odds for Sunday, July 31 (Gonsolin Has to Find Form at Coors Field)
By Josh Yourish
The Dodgers were unable to give themselves a chance for the four-game sweep in Colorado today as the Rockies took the 5-3 win last night. Now, Colorado will try to force the split with German Marquez on the mound against Tony Gonsolin and Los Angeles.
The Dodgers hold a 12 game lead in the NL West at 67-33, and are 22 games ahead of the fourth place Rockies, who are 46-56.

Dodgers vs. Rockies Prediction and Pick
Last night was a bit of a pitcher’s duel at least as far as Coors Field goes. Kyle Freeland got the better of Clayton Kershaw, and tonight could shape up as similarly low scoring. Tony Gonsolin is pitching for LA and has been an unquestioned all-star this year, but the wheels may be falling off slightly.
The plan with Gonsolin this year was clearly to keep his innings low and let him be effective in five or six inning outings. Then, that plan was abandoned on July 1 when Gonsolin went 7.2 against San Diego. He then went seven innings his next outing. Since those two longer outings, Gonsolin has taken the mound twice and has given up five and four runs respectively. Clearly his two worst starts of the year.
German Marquez is trending in the opposite direction. Marquez has a 5.25 ERA, but his last three starts have all been quality ones. This could make the Rockies a bit of an intriguing underdog, but I feel the smartest play in this one is the under. Gonsolin won’t struggle forever; he is in the 82nd percentile of expected ERA and all of his stats are indicative of continued success. If Marquez continues his success in July then under 11 feels like free money.
Pick: Under 11.0 (-115)
