Opening Day at Coors Field is on Friday with the Rockies set to host the deadly Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers enter the year as one of the scariest teams in MLB and with sights set on a World Series title. The Dodgers made a run in the Postseason but were bested by the eventual World Series champion Atlanta Braves. They finished with the second-best record in baseball and are on track to end the year at the top again.

The Rockies, on the other hand, finished below .500 last year, in fourth place in the NL West. They did an ok job this offseason to get over that .500 mark. They signed Kris Bryant, which is nice. But, they didn’t do much to build around Bryant. I guess Colorado is hoping that Jose Iglesias’ bat and the arms of  Alex Colome, and Chad Kuhl are enough to compete alongside Bryant. I am not so sure. Here are the odds for this game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook

Dodgers vs. Rockies Prediction and Pick

Walker Buehler gets the Opening Day nod for Los Angeles and is coming off a phenomenal 2021 campaign. Buehler finished the season with a 2.47 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and a 16-4 record in 33 starts. He finished with the third-best pitcher in terms of ERA, fourth in WHIP, and 21st in strikeout to walk ratio. Clearly, Buehler was a force to be reckoned with last year. I think he gets off on the right foot this year and carries that momentum into 2022.

The Rockies, meanwhile, are starting Kyle Freeland in their home opener. This is a bit of a head-scratcher as Freeland finished last year with a 4.33 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 7-8 record. This is a pretty large gap for two Opening Day starting pitchers. While Buehler is a legit ace, Freeland might be a fourth or fifth starter on many other teams. Take the Dodgers to dominate opening day on the runline.

Pick: Dodgers -1.5
