Does Anyone Want to Win the NFL MVP This Season?

There's a connection to this year's NFL MVP race and the Greek mythology tale of Sisyphus.

The king of Corinth, Sisyphys, was punished by the Greek god Zeus for cheating death twice and was sentenced to an eternal punishment of pushing a boulder up a hill. But every time he would reach the top, the weight of the rock would be too great, causing the boulder to come back down and Sisyphus would have to start over from the beginning.

For any of the top NFL MVP candidates in 2021, it seems like every time they approach the status of a favorite, their collective boulder pushes them back down after a terrible performance.

Two weeks ago, Josh Allen and the Bills came off a stunning upset loss to the Jaguars, Dak Prescott was shut out for three quarters against the Broncos, and Matthew Stafford threw two costly interceptions for the Rams vs. the Titans.

This week, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens lost to a two-win Dolphins team, Tom Brady struggled in the Bucs' road loss to Washington, Kyler Murray missed his second straight game, and Justin Herbert's Chargers are now 2-3 over their last five games.

So which of these candidates could be the best bet to actually get the boulder over the hill? Brady's schedule for the Bucs is one of the easiest remaining, but then again, they just fell to a Washington team with two wins all season. Allen may appear to be the most likely candidate, but all value on him has likely disappeared following his bounce-back start.

Perhaps a candidate to keep in mind is Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, who opened the season as the favorite to win at WynnBET, but had fallen all the way to +5000. Mahomes' top value may be gone after Sunday night's 5-touchdown, 400+ yard performance in primetime against the Raiders, but if Kansas City goes on a run, he's right back in a top position.

Heading into Week 10, here's where WynnBET last had their MVP odds for the season:
