The 2021 NFL preseason kicks off tomorrow night when the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers square off in the NFL’s Hall of Fame Game.

We’re all excited for the first taste of football this season, but I’m here to tell you not to expect a high-scoring affair on Thursday night. I know, I know, that’s not as fun.

However, WynnBET has the over/under for the Hall of Fame Game set at 33.0 and recent history tells us that the under is the bet to make.

Over the past seven years (five games), the Hall of Fame Game has been relatively low-scoring, as the total combined points between the teams has surpassed this year’s over/under of 33.0 just one time over that stretch.

It makes sense given that the first game of the preseason rarely features starters or key players for more than a possession.

Tomorrow’s game is going to follow that same pattern, as it may even be surprising to see Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott play at all as he works his way back from last year’s ankle injury that caused him to miss most of the 2020 season.

That means we’re going to see a lot of backups and fringe roster guys fighting to earn themselves more playing time throughout the preseason. It will still make for an entertaining game, but don’t expect Ben DiNucci and Mason Rudolph to be slinging the pigskin all over the yard.

WynnBET currently has the Steelers as a 1.5-point favorite over Dallas, and Pittsburgh is -125 on the moneyline to get the win. I’d back the Steelers simply because their backup quarterbacks (Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins) are much more proven than Dallas’ trio of DiNucci, Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert.

If you’re really confident in both teams struggling to score, you can take the under on the Steelers point total, which is set at 17.0, at -120 odds. The Cowboys’ point total is set at 15.5 with the under (-120) also as the favorite.
