Donovan Mitchell Needs to be Taken Seriously For NBA MVP
About a month ago, I wrote how the Jazz’s win total projection was eventually going to set them up to be the same playoff underperformers they always are. The Jazz are going to be the Jazz, which means they’ll win a ton of games in the regular season and then flame out in the postseason.
While I still believe that to be true, there’s one thing they have that could change all of that.
Donovan Mitchell.
The fifth-year guard is stepping into his prime years and this could be the season he takes the next leap into the “elite” category. WynnBET currently has his MVP odds at +3000, which provides great value.
Utah is expected to be one of the top seeds in the West. The top should consist of the Jazz, the Lakers and the Suns. If the Jazz are in the top 3, and Mitchell improves his game like he’s done every year, he could be a perfect dark horse.
Mitchell averaged a career-high 26.4 points per game last season, along with a career-high 5.2 assists. The one area he needs to improve on is his efficiency. He shoots under 44% for his career. It’s understandable because he’s the number one option on the team with limited creators, but he has to raise that number to get to the next level.
Nevertheless, Mitchell has shown to fix a part of his game every season. Utah was the No. 1 seed last season and we’ve seen the best player on the best team be vaulted into the MVP conversation.
Again, Mitchell might not be the No. 1 option for dark horse bets, but he has fantastic value and should be taken seriously as an MVP candidate.
