Don’t Overreact to Duke’s Loss in Coach K’s Final Game (Blue Devils Still Top 5 in National Championship Odds)
By Peter Dewey
The Duke Blue Devils were unable to win legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but that doesn’t mean they are a team to count out in March Madness.
The Blue Devils have lost a few questionable games this season, but they still have one of the best players in the nation in freshman forward Paolo Banchero, and they are still among the top contenders to win the national title at WynnBET Sportsbook.
Duke’s odds have remained at +1000 to win the title at WynnBET, and I’d advise bettors to not overreact to the loss in Coach K’s final game. If you are set on betting on Duke to win the title, now may be your best chance, as the Blue Devils’ odds would likely shrink if they go on to win the ACC Tournament and earn a top seed in March Madness.
Duke is still sixth overall in KenPom’s latest rankings, and the Blue Devils are fifth in adjusted offensive efficiency and 24th in adjusted defensive efficiency this season at KenPom.
There aren’t many teams that boast a similar resume, and Banchero, Wendell Moore. Trevor Keels and AJ Griffin are a load for any team in the country to deal with.
While many people may be off the scent of Duke because of the loss to North Carolina, this team is going to be motivated to show that it can play its best basketball in the postseason. Coach K would certainly love to go out on top in his final season, and the oddsmakers are very much in on the Blue Devils.
Only Gonzaga (+400), Arizona (+600) and Kentucky (+800) have shorter odds than Duke to win the national title. Don’t put too much stock into Saturday’s loss before building out your portfolio of college basketball futures.
