The Los Angeles Chargers and quarterback Justin Herbert were a bit of a disappointment last season after failing to even make the playoffs thanks to a Week 18 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The winner of the game was guaranteed a playoff berth and the Chargers blew their chance to make a postseason run in a heartbreaking fashion. While the ending wasn’t what many were hoping for, there is a lot to like about this team moving forward.

The oddsmakers at WynnBET Sportsbook set their opening odds to win the next Super Bowl at +2000 and I think there are a lot worse bets you can make than the Chargers.

With Herbert on the roster, anything is possible really. No sophomore slump for this guy. Herbert went over 5.000 yards passing and threw 38 touchdowns with 15 interceptions.

The offense looked great overall with Herbert helped by Austin Ekeler out of the backfield and receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Ekeler gives the Chargers a truly balanced offense with a solid running game. If this team wants to make a deep run in the playoffs, they have the offense to do it already in my estimation. They were the fifth-best scoring offense in the NFL and should continue to put up big numbers on offense.

Where this team really needs help is on defense. The Chargers were the fourth-worst team in scoring defense, giving up 27 points per game.

The interior line needs some work to be sure after they bled rushing yards like a stuck pig last year. Luckily this will be easier than it sounds with a lot of the line hitting free agency including Linval Joseph and Justin Jones. This gives the Chargers a good opportunity to just rework the whole interior and solve their biggest issue from last season.

The secondary also needs some fine-tuning after giving up 27 passing touchdowns last season. Their current crew, featuring Michael Davis and Asante Samuel Jr. are just average but they need a true number one guy in the secondary.

Frankly, if they can pull it together on defense, they become a very scary team and certainly worth a look in the futures market.
