The New Jersey Devils will host the Anaheim Ducks tonight in a game featuring two struggling franchises on opposite ends of the country. The Ducks are on a two-game losing streak, have lost five of their last seven, and are currently one point outside of a playoff spot. The Ducks did, however, shut out the Devils 4-0 in November. The Devils are 2-1 in their last three games but just 3-7 in their last 10. They are seventh in the Metropolitan Division and way out of the playoff race. At this point, NJ just wants the season so they can reassess and start over again next season. Here are the odds for tonight’s matchup, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Ducks vs. Devils Odds and Total

  • Devils -145

  • Devils -1.5 (+165)

Total:

Ducks vs. Devils Prediction and Pick

The major flaw in the Devils’ game this year continues to be their defense. It’s a shame too because their offense is averaging over three goals per game. But the defense remains one of the worst in the entire league. NJ allows 3.5 goals per game and things would be a lot worse if Nico Daws wasn’t playing so well between the pipes. Daws has a .909 save percentage and a 2.68 GAA. He is keeping the Devils out of the basement of the conference. Though they are just one point out of last place in the division.

Meanwhile, the Ducks are struggling on both sides of the puck and appear to have completely imploded. Their offense is averaging just 2.87 goals per game and allowing a total of 12 in their last two matchups. Joe Gibson has not been as effective as Daws and is averaging a 3.00 GAA and a .907 save percentage. Despite this, the Ducks match up better on defense with Hampus Lindholm and Cam Fowler that one might assume. Combined with the Devils’ stank offense, Anaheim becomes a valuable underdog.  While I don’t think the Ducks are a long-term team to bet on, the Devils have no value on the ML here and can’t be trusted on the puck line.
