Duke vs. North Carolina: Mike Krzyzewksi Facts vs. North Carolina
By Reed Wallach
Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewksi is set to coach the final game of his illustrious career in front of the Cameron Indoor Stadium crowd on Saturday against rival school North Carolina.
Coach K's 47-year coaching career will come to a close with one last Tobacco Road rivalry game against UNC. While this will be the last time he coaches in front of the Blue Devils faithful, Duke is still tracking towards a Final Four run with an outside chance at a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Before we breakdown the final rivalry game for Coach K, let's look at some historic facts for Coach K in his career against North Carolina.
Coach K's Success vs. North Carolina
Krzyzeweski is 50-46 against UNC in his career, compiling a 22-18 record at home. However, there appears to be a large tax to getting Duke at home recently, as the team has failed to cover in seven of nine games against the Tar Heels.
Both teams have typically been competitive over Coach K's tenure and games tend to become thrillers often. However, it's clear that Duke has been overvalued in these matchups at Cameron Indoor, covering just 8 of the last 18 times (h/t Sportsline.com). Further, when a double digit favorite like they are set to be on Saturday night, the Blue Devils have covered just 4 of 10 times.
With that in mind, the Blue Devils had little issue disposing of UNC earlier this season in the Dean Dome. The 26-4 Blue Devils won 87-67 in a wire-to-wire blow out win. Coach K's club covered with ease as 3.5-point favorites.
2021-2022 Duke Blue Devils ATS Record
Duke is 18-12 against the spread (ATS) this season, which includes a 10-8 mark at home and 17-12 as a favorite.
When favored, the Blue Devils are 25-4 during the 2021-2022 season while also winning 15 of 17 at Cameron Indoor.
Coach K Career Stats
Coach K has the most wins in NCAA men's basketball history with 1,196 victories, 1,123 coming as head coach of Duke. At home, his gaudy win percentage climbs from 78% to 88% where he has compiled a 572-75 record.
As we look at the NCAA Tournament, no one has coached in more games than Krzyzewski, who has 127 games and a NCAA record 97 wins.
He has reached 12 Final Fours, which ties an NCAA record and has an ACC record 15 Tournament championships.
Of course, he has won 5 National Championships in 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010 and 2015.
