The 5-7 Philadelphia Eagles take a short trip north the East Rutherfurd New Jersey to take on the 3-8 New York Jets this weekend.

The Eagles are coming off a demeaning loss to the other NY (NJ) team after getting beat by the Giants 13-7 yesterday. It was an ugly game all around but the Eagles should have won with 332 yards to total offense compared to the Giants’ 264. As is usually the case in these kinds of losses, the Eagles lost with a -4 turnover margin.

The Jets, meanwhile, are coming off a rare win over the Houston Texans 21-14.  The defense came alive in the second half ad shut the Texans out and held them to 202 yards.

The Eagles are a much better team than the Texans and have a dynamic running game that many teams find frustrating to defend.

Eagles vs. Jets Prediction and Pick

I’m not going to read too much into the loss to the Giants here. For one reason or another, those NYG/PHI games are always a bit weird and never quite go as one would expect. The Eagles, coming off a big win over the Saints, were expected to walk all over the struggling G-Men. Much like the Texans were supposed to beat the lowly Jets.

So we have two teams on the wrong end of “what should have happened.”

The Jets won in spite of some truly awful play from QB Zach Wilson and it’s hard to see how they stick with him and expect to win after that disaster. Wilson went 14-for-24 with 145 yards and one interception. Sure, it was his first game back from injury but I think it’s clear now that Wilson isn’t a starting QB in this league. At least not this season.

The Jets don’t have any other good options with Mike White too green and Joe Flacco too old to make a difference. I think the game comes down to the Jets' QB play and therefore and enthusiastically fading them coming off a win.

Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -6.5 (-110)
