East Carolina vs. BYU Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 9
By Reed Wallach
The season is unravelling quickly for BYU, who hasn't been able to hold up against one of the toughest schedules in college football, now 4-4 on the year.
The Cougars are back at home in Provo and now welcome a frisky ECU team that is off of an impressive double digit win against UCF as home underdogs. Can the Pirates keep it rolling on the road against a weary BYU team?
Let's check out the odds and find out:
East Carolina vs. BYU Odds, Spread and Total
East Carolina vs. BYU Betting Trends
- BYU is 2-6 against the spread (ATS) this season
- ECU is 5-3 ATS this season, 2-1 as an underdog
- BYU has gone OVER in five of eight games
- ECU has gone UNDER in all three games as underdogs this season
East Carolina vs. BYU Prediction and Pick
These two teams are trending in the opposite direction, but I'm going to play against that notion and play the Cougars to get back on track at home.
First, BYU has a pronounced home field advantage at altitude in Provo, Utah, and also are a pass first offense. The Cougars pass the ball at a top 30 rate in the country behind future NFL quarterback Jaren Hall, which will negate the Pirates elite rush defense that shut down UCF last week.
BYU has been run down by playing the likes of Baylor, Oregon Notre Dame and Arkansas but I do believe that is clouding our vision of a talented team. BYU's offense is 25th in yards per play and 30th in offensive points per drive, and will be facing an ECU defense that is allowing nine yards per pass (124th in the country) and a completion percentage of 65% (112th).
I think Hall and the offense gets going on a short week and covers against ECU.
