Eastern Michigan and San Jose State are set to do battle in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Tuesday, December 20th.

San Jose State fell apart down the stretch this season, they didn't cover their final six games, while Easttern Michigan closed on a heater, winning (and covering) in four of their last five games. What should we expect in this bowl game between two teams heading in opposite directions?

Here are the odds:

Eastern Michigan vs. San Jose State Odds, Spread and Total

Eastern Michigan vs. San Jose State Betting Trends

  • Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton is 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in bowl games
  • San Jose State Brent Brennan 0-1 ATS in bowl games
  • Eastern Michigan is 5-1 ATS this season as an underdog
  • San Jose State is 3-6 ATS as a favorite this season

Eastern Michigan vs. San Jose State Prediction and Pick

San Jose State has fallen off as the season wore on, and I don't trust them in projected inclement weather in Idaho, which has potential snow in the forecast. San Jose State's defense fell off as the season wore on, allowing 27 or more to the likes of Utah State, San Diego State and Nevada over the final five games of the season.

While Eastern Michigan is far from an elite offense, the team does well on the margins, 29th in third down offense and top 10 in red zone touchdown percentage. Overall, the team is 31st in success rate.

The Spartans have a formidable defense that is 25th in yards per play and allow less than two points per drive. This is a unit that is built around their defensive line, top 20 in sacks and rush yards allowed per game, but I don't trust this offense to hold up after allowing 40 sacks on the year and have zero ability to run the ball (121st in yards per carry).

With poor weather in store, I'm going to look towards the under in a game that may quickly turn into a rock fight given San Jose State's poor form of late.
