Elijah Moore Emerging as Top Target for Zach Wilson
By Peter Dewey
The New York Jets may have brought in Corey Davis and Keelan Cole this offseason to boost their receiving core, but oddsmakers think a different acquisition could be Zach Wilson’s top target in 2021.
Second-round pick Elijah Moore is tied with Jamison Crowder for the best odds to catch Wilson’s first score of the season (+350) on WynnBET. Moore was impressive in minicamp, and he and Wilson have developed quite a rapport heading into training camp.
Wilson, who seems to be locked in as the starting quarterback for the Jets after being taken with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, has seen his stock rise as of late. WynnBET bumped Wilson above Trey Lance in its NFL Rookie of the Year odds, and now it appears that is rubbing off on his teammates as well.
Moore will compete in a crowded receiving corps that also features last year’s second-round pick Denzel Mims, but he certainly could play himself into a starting job in training camp and during the preseason.
Moore has +12000 odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards this season, and while he’s a major longshot to lead the league, he has the third-best odds of any rookie pass catcher behind Ja’Marr Chase (+6000) and DeVonta Smith (+10000).
Despite that, Moore has been overlooked in WynnBET’s odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, as he sits at just +6600, which is behind Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Smith, Rashod Bateman, Kadarius Toney, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Amari Rodgers, Terrace Marshall Jr. and Rondale Moore.
If Moore does emerge as a star in the Jets’ receiving group, it will not only be a good sign for the team, but for Wilson’s trajectory moving forward. With Crowder in the final year of his deal and tight end Chris Herndon still an unproven commodity, the Jets need to find more proven pass catchers alongside Davis if they want to become a playoff contender in the future.
