Elijah Moore Jumps Several Receivers in Rookie of the Year Odds
By Peter Dewey
The Elijah Moore hype has been all around New York Jets camp this offseason, and finally the odds are starting to reflect the rookie’s unique ability.
Moore, who opened at +6600 to win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award on WynnBET, is now +2000 to achieve the feat.
He surpassed Rashod Bateman, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kadarius Toney, Rondale Moore, Amari Rodgers, and Terrace Marshall Jr. in the standings. Only Ja’Marr Chase (+1100), Jaylen Waddle (+1800) and DeVonta Smith (+1800) have better odds among wideouts.
Moore has caught the eye of several star players around the league, and he’s quickly becoming one of the top targets for rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.
WynnBET is buying into the Moore-Wilson connection, as the rookie wideout is the co-favorite with Jamison Crowder to catch Wilson’s first career touchdown pass at +350 odds.
"I was telling someone this morning he's an old soul," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said of Moore. "He's already ahead of the game in regards to how he studies, takes care of his body, the way he approaches practice, the way he approaches each rep. He's impressive in the sense that we feel very confident that he's going to find ways to get better. This game is very important to him and he shows it with his actions every day."
For Moore to have a Rookie of the Year-caliber season, Wilson is going to have to play well enough to get him the ball several times a game. The only downside to Wilson also being a rookie is it is much more likely that a quarterback will win the award than a receiver.
To put it into perspective, three of the last six Offensive Rookie of the Year award winners have been quarterbacks and a wideout hasn’t won since Odell Beckham Jr. back in 2014.
While I’m not sold on Moore winning the award just yet, the jump he’s made certainly deserves some major attention from bettors. If Wilson is struggling and Moore is still putting up impressive stats, he may be worth a bet at +2000, or even better if you got him earlier at +6600.
