Enzo Couacaud vs. John Isner Wimbledon First Round Prediction and Pick (Can Isner's Serve Make This Easy?)
By Reed Wallach
One of the biggest servers on the ATP Tour and a Wimbledon staple returns to the Grand Slam.
John Isner's serve is sometimes unstoppable, and on the fast grass surface at Wimbledon, he is always a dangerous threat to beat anyone. He opens this fortnight facing qualifier Enzo Couacaud. What should we expect in this one with Isner sitting as a massvie favorite?
Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Enzo Couacaud vs. John Isner Prediction and Pick
Isner's serve is so dominant, it's almost a cheat code on grass. With that being said, his inability to return his oppositions serve and his propensity to go to tiebreaks opens up a ton of variance to his match. Outside of a semifinals in 2018, he has not made it out of the second round since 2017. Last year, he lost in the first round.
While Couacaud is probably outgunned here as a challenger level competitor, I think we can see a long match given the high likelihood of tiebreakers. It also helps him that he is familiar with the surface after running through the qualifiers, winning three matches to make the draw.
He faced Daniel Evans at Nottingham on this grass swing and forced a tiebreak in that one as well. No, Evans doesn't have Isner's devastating serve, but is more mobile and more likely to break serve.
Finding the best bet is a bit of a math problem. 38.5 games implies that you need either three tiebreaks or for the French qualifier to win a set. I think the safer bet is to go with the games spread at even odds in what should be a competitive, but potentially straight sets win for Isner, who has more experience in Grand Slams.
LEAN: Couacaud +4.5 Games (+100)
