ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit, The Bear Side With UCLA, Other Underdogs
While No. 3 Clemson and No. 5 Georgia are going to be the center of attention during the primetime slot, there’s still going to be a great matchup on the other side of the country.
No. 16 LSU and UCLA will go head to head tonight, and while LSU is ranked and the favorite, not everyone is jumping on the Tiger bandwagon.
Kirk Herbstreit and the Bear picked UCLA to upset LSU on ESPN’s College Gameday.
WynnBET has UCLA as a +115 underdog on the moneyline and a 2.5-point favorite against the spread, while LSU is a -135 favorite on the moneyline.
The Bruins are coming off a dominant performance against the University of Hawai’i, winning 44-10. UCLA is going into its fourth season with Chip Kelly at the helm, with the last three years being losing seasons. If they can upset LSU, the Bruins would be 2-0 and on their way to easily the most successful season in Kelly’s tenure there.
LSU is trying to make a statement as well. The Tigers are +5000 to win the National Championship this year. A loss to an unproven UCLA team would instantly make LSU’s odds take a nosedive and make a run for a College Football Playoff extremely difficult.
Along with picking UCLA, the Bear picked two other home underdogs to cover the spread.
Texas State is a 14.0-point underdog at home and +410 on the moneyline. The Bobcats haven’t had a winning season since 2014 and a win against a Power 5 school would instantly be the highlight of the season.
Maryland is only a 3.0-point favorite to West Virginia, which could be a steal. Maryland has won three of its last four season openers, with all two of the three wins coming over ranked teams.
The Bear and Herbstreit clearly are on the same page and have their eyes on some intriguing upsets against the spread.
