Euro 2020 Odds: England Favored to Win First Ever European Championship Ahead of Semi-finals
It’s coming home!
Well, it's favored to, at least.
England football (soccer) hasn’t had much to cheer for on the international stage in the last half-century, but it has a legitimate shot to finally bring a championship back to its country.
The English are one of four remaining teams in the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, and oddsmakers have it set as the betting favorite. WynnBET has England set atop the latest odds list at +150, with Italy (+225), Spain (+275), and Denmark (+800) rounding out the list.
England is set to meet Denmark in the semi-finals, and Italy will take on Spain. The two winners will meet in the finals for the rights to call themselves the champions of Europe.
England has never won the European Championship, with third place finishes in 1968 and 1996 being its best results. Denmark (1995), Italy (1968), and Spain (1964, 2008, 2012) have all previously won the event.
An Italy vs England meeting in the final is the most likely matchup, according to WynnBET. It has the shortest odds at +145, while England vs Spain (+185), Denmark vs Italy (+475), and Denmark vs Spain (+550) round out the odds list to meet in the final.
England had the second-shortest odds to win the tournament before the group stage and knockout stage, but it took over as the favorite after France was upset by Switzerland in the Round of 16. The English defeated Germany in the first round, and then trounced Ukraine in the quarter-finals by a score of 4-0. The only game that England has not won so far in the tournament, was a 0-0 draw to Scotland in the Group stage.
Another factor in England’s favor, is it will have home field advantage against the Danish on Wednesday as their semi-final matchup is set to take place in London at Wembley Stadium. The final, if they make it, will also take place at Wembley.
The English football fans have been some of the most passionate that you will ever see in sports, and it will be quite the scene in London if they are crowned kings of European Football.
