The Boston Red Sox were treading water over the first two months of the Major League season, then went on a 20-6 tear in the month of June to firmly place themselves into playoff contention in the American League.

Unfortunately, they've already doubled their loss total from June in July, going 5-12 heading into the All-Star break; putting themselves on the outside looking in of a final Wild Card spot in the American League.

The Red Sox, along with the AL-Central leading Minnesota Twins and underperforming Chicago White Sox are amongst the teams that sportsbooks have around a coin-flip to make the postseason. There's still around 70 games left on the schedule for all three teams to make a serious run, but time is of the essence as the second half begins this Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners, once 10 games under .500 just over a month ago, have won 14 straight games and are now a heavy favorite to make it to their first playoff since the 116-win 2021 club.

So, which teams do the books have little to no doubts about a playoff birth? Have other teams already been ruled out of contention before they've been mathematically eliminated?
