Dallas Cowboys’ running back Ezekiel Elliott has been the main man in the Cowboys’ backfield since 2016, leading the league in rushing yards twice, but has seen his attempts per game fall three seasons in a row, and is sitting at just 13.5 rushing attempts through the first two games of 2021; has backup running back Tony Pollard (eight attempts per game) earned enough playing time to consider this backfield a timeshare?

Last week against the Los Angeles Chargers, Elliott carried the ball 16 times for 71 yards and a touchdown, but was outdone by Pollard, who had 13 carries for 109 yards and touchdown. Pollard also caught three passes for 31 yards to Elliott’s two catches for 26 yards in the passing game, a fairly even split.

Philadelphia Eagles’ running back Miles Sanders has rushed for 129 yards in the first two games, but quarterback Jalen Hurts is still the Eagles’ leading rusher with 144 yards. In Week 2, Sanders had a mediocre 13 carries for 55 yards on the ground and just one catch for four yards through the air.

WynnBET Sportsbook has set the rushing yards prop for Elliott at 62.5 yards (over -115/under -115) and Sanders at 57.5 yards (over -115/under -115).

Philadelphia currently has the 23rd-ranked rushing defense in the NFL allowing 120.5 rushing yards per game, and in the first two weeks they have faced running backs such as Mike Davis and Cordarrelle Patterson of the Atlanta Falcons and Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty of the San Francisco 49ers.

Elliott is more talented than these running backs and he should find some space against the Eagles’ defense on Monday Night.

Sanders is a quality running back but will face a Dallas rushing defense that has allowed just 73.5 rushing yards per game. Although, after the Cowboys jumped out to a 14-3 first quarter lead against the Chargers in Week 2, Los Angeles didn’t run the ball too often, with just 19 rushing attempts the whole game.

There may be a committee forming in the Dallas backfield, but this would appear to be a good opportunity for Elliott to pick up some yards on the ground.

I’ll say that the Cowboys will lean on Elliott tonight to control the clock and the tempo of their offense. Elliott will have more rushing yards than Sanders on Monday Night, in what should be a vintage performance for Zeke.
