Is there a vulnerable favorite atop the NFL Awards odds board?

Kenny Pickett was the lone quarterback taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it's unclear at the moment if he will start heading into the season. Even so, consensus sportsbooks installed Pickett as the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Is that warranted just yet?

Before we break down the latest report from Pittsburgh, here are the latest consensus odds for Offensive Rookie of the Year:

2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

  • Kenny Pickett: +500
  • Drake London: +700
  • Treylon Burks: +700
  • Breece Hall: +800
  • Christian Watson: +800
  • Kenneth Walker: +1000
  • Garrett Wilson: +1000
  • Chris Olave: +1000
  • Jameson Williams: +1000
  • Skyy Moore: +1100
  • Desmond Ridder: +1100
  • Jahan Dotson: +1600
  • James Cook: +1600
  • Jalen Tolbert: +1600
  • Matt Corral: +2000

Will Kenny Pickett Start for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022?

The Steelers brought in Mitch Trubisky in free agency to help provide a proven presence in the quarterback room, but it appears the former No. 2 overall pick is the likely starter heading into Week 1 on June 15th.

For reference, Kendrick Green is an offensive lineman for the Steelers.

This is a concerning report for any bettor that is looking to back Pickett to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at these short of odds. Even if the Pittsburgh product ultimately plays this season, he is going to have to make up a ton of ground if he isn't the Week 1 starter.

I'd hold off on betting Pickett before we get further clarity on his role this season, and likely wait for a necessary price adjustment before backing him. I'd look for skill position players that will be day one starters instead of the first QB off the board.
