San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was pitching at a Cy Young-caliber rate in the first half of the season.

Through his first 18 games, Gausman was 9-3 with an ERA of 1.73 through 114.2 innings; striking out 133 batters with a WHIP (walks + hits / innings pitched) of 0.820 to lead the league.

In the second half, it's been a different story.

The right-hander still has gone 3-2 over eight games started, but his ERA in the second half is 4.82 through just 37.1 innings pitched.

Brewers vs. Giants Preview

Gausman heads to the mound tonight to kick off September as two of the top squads in the National League match up again tonight at Oracle Park in San Francisco when the Giants host the Milwaukee Brewers. WynnBET has the Giants heavily favored at -185 odds on the money line as they look to snap a three-game losing streak. The total for tonight's game currently is at 8 runs.

The Brewers won the first two games of the series thanks to their two top outstanding starters. Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff were terrific as the Brewers have given up just three runs through the first two games.

For Milwaukee, left-hander Brett Anderson has been inconsistent with a 4-8 record and 4.27 ERA. He's also 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA over his last four games. Between both starting pitchers, neither have been particularly effective as of late, but is Gausman's second half performance indicative of being nearly a -200 favorite with the way the Giants as a team are playing? I certainly don't think so. Since August 25th, the Giants have scored just 2.86 runs per game.

Brewers vs. Giants Prediction

I think the Brewers +1.5 (-140) is certainly worth considering on the run line just to play it safe, but with both pitchers' recent struggles, I'd rather focus on the total of 8 instead. The juice is heavy on the under at -125, but the line opened up at 7.5 and got bet up to the new total. I think we'll see more than 8 runs against two pitchers who have had their share of issues as of late.

I won't be betting this game, personally, but I do lean towards the over.

LEAN: OVER 8.0 (-105)
