Fade the Dallas Cowboys This Preseason With Dak Prescott Likely Out Until Week 1
By Peter Dewey
The Dallas Cowboys have two more preseason games to play, but it sounds like star quarterback Dak Prescott won’t see the field in either one of them.
“The original plan, the original hope was that the Dallas Cowboys could get Dak Prescott in a game, in a preseason game, at some point before the season,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport said. “They targeted this weekend’s game against the Houston Texans, but as Mike McCarthy told reporters today, there’s a good chance that it does not happen.
“But of course, it has nothing to do with the ankle that is absolutely fine, the ankle that caused him to miss the second half of last season. This is about his shoulder. And as far as where Prescott is, he’s in a really good spot. When I was at the Cowboys’ practice a couple of days ago, he was throwing with Amari Cooper.”
Rapoport added that everything is healing as it should for Dak, but that he’s not quite ready to get in a game.
If Dak isn’t ready to get in the game, then bettors get to play their own game and fade the Cowboys this preseason.
How exactly am I doing that? Well, for starters I love the under on Dallas’ final two games against the Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Dallas has scored just 19 points through its first two preseason games, and it hit the under against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game as well as against the Arizona Cardinals in last week’s matchup.
The total for Saturday night’s game between Houston and Dallas is set at 37.5 at WynnBET and I am gladly going to take the under at that number. Houston has offensive problems of its own without Deshaun Watson, and if Prescott isn’t going to suit up Dallas’ offense is led by three underwhelming backup quarterbacks.
The under has been the play so far in preseason matchups, as it was 14-3 through Week 1 of the preseason, and even though Dallas is a 3.5-point favorite, I don’t see it lighting up the scoreboard without Prescott.
