Fairfield vs. Iona Prediction and Odds (Gaels Should Roll at Home)
By Peter Dewey
The Iona Gaels are the class of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and they’ll get a chance to win a third straight game on Sunday when they host the Fairfield Stags.
Fairfield has struggled this season, going just 12-15, and it dropped it’s last two games to Manhattan and Saint Peter’s.
Rick Pitino’s squad has rebounded nicely from two losses earlier this month, but can it cover a rather large spread at home?
Here are the odds via WynnBET:
Fairfield vs. Iona Odds, Spread and Total
Spread:
- Fairfield +12 (-110)
- Iona -12 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Fairfield +600
- Iona -900
Total:
- 139.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
Fairfield vs. Iona Prediction and Pick
The Stags have been double-digit underdogs two other times this season, and they covered the spread in both of those games. However, those were Fairfield’s first two games of the season.
The Stags haven’t been nearly as effective ATS as of late, covering just once in their last six games and five times in their last 17 contests.
Iona is just 3-4 against the spread when favored by double digits, but this team is too good for me to fade them in this spot. The Gaels are a solid defense, ranking 49th in the country in opponent effective field goal percentage, and they are 48th in points per game.
Iona isn’t the greatest shooting team, ranking outside the top-100 in effective field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and two-point percentage, but it attempts the third most free throws per game in the country.
That should help the Gaels at home against a Fairfield team that does rank 97th in opponent points per game. While this is a big number, the Gaels are the side to back in this MAAC showdown.
Lean: Iona -12 (-110)
