Sometimes the worst games can also be the best games.

In Week 8, the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons traded blows back and forth in the 4th quarter and into overtime, highlighted by a sensational Hail Mary completion from P.J. Walker to D.J. Moore with seconds left to go.

Eventually the Falcons hung on in overtime, but not before several missed kicks and broken plays made for arguably the most entertaining game of the first half of the NFL season, despite very little quality football actually being played.

With both teams turning around and rematching less than two weeks later, how does Vegas project tonight's matchup to go? And how can we take advantage of some of our favorite odds on the board?

Before we dive into many of the available prop bets on the board to build ourselves a juicy same game parlay for tonight, here are the latest odds available for Thursday Night Football in Carolina between these two NFC South foes:

For tonight, I've got a four-leg same-game-parlay at FanDuel Sportsbook where a $25 wager would win $389.21 with +1556 odds. And, that's with moving the line in our favor in three of the four proposition bets!

Let's dive in and see if we can cash big to start our NFL wagering week.

Best Thursday Night Football Same Game Parlay Picks for Falcons vs. Panthers

  • Carolina Panthers +7.5 (-265) - alternate line
  • UNDER 47.5 Total Points (-265) - alternate line
  • Cordarrelle Patterson 40+ Rushing Yards (-260) - alternate line
  • Marcus Mariota Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+280)

Carolina Panthers +7.5 (-265) - alternate line

Carolina is currently down to +2.5 for the game after spending part of the week at +3. Given how badly they were blown out on the road the previous week to the Cincinnati Bengals without Ja'Marr Chase, I'm a bit surprised to see the line move in their favor hours before kickoff, but it's an indication that the sharps believe the Panthers can cover.

If D.J. Moore doesn't remove his helmet after his remarkable hail mary reception a few weeks ago, we may be talking about the Panthers being favorites in this game, rather than underdogs at home of just under a field goal. I think they let last week get to them, and show some resiliency against a Falcons team that has plenty of unsolved issues defensively.

UNDER 47.5 Total Points (-265) - alternate line

Thursday Night Football has been an under bettor's dream throughout 2022, and frankly over the last several years. Via Evan Abrams, over the last 22 TNF games, the under has hit in 16 of them.

As for this game specifically, the under was well on its way to hitting just a few weeks ago with the Panthers up 21-13 heading into the 4th quarter. Then in the final 15 minutes and overtime, a combined 37 points were scored by both teams as defense became completely optional.

Second games between two division teams tend to be lower scoring, and especially after the offensive onslaught we saw late in Week 8, I'm willing to move the current total of 41.5 six points in our favor past the key number of 47 as part of our parlay.

Cordarrelle Patterson 40+ Rushing Yards (-260) - alternate line

Patterson is projected to at 54.5 rushing yards this week against a Panthers team that just got taken to the woodshed by Joe Mixon and a bad Cincinnati Bengals offensive line. Mixon had over 100 yards before halftime, finishing with 152 yards on just 22 carries, while catching four passes for 58 yards with five total touchdowns.

Yikes.

Patterson has competition in the backfield with Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley, but has gone above 40 yards in all but one game he's started this season, with the one time being 38 yards.

He's back healthy, and is a pivotal part of the Falcons' offensive gameplan. Arthur Smith won't shy away from using his best runner in a game Atlanta must win to keep their wild NFC South division hopes alive.

Marcus Mariota Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+280)

Mariota's passing numbers tend to be all over the place week to week, but I know he's a consistent option to run in every game this year, and with the read-option being integral to the successful running game of Atlanta in 2022, he could easily take off and run when the Falcons are into the red zone, and especially goal line situations.

Mariota has scored three touchdowns already on the ground, and has 13 rushing attempts in the red zone through the first half.

It's for sure the biggest wild card bet of our parlay, but I project Mariota being above value at his current price, and love our chances on Thursday night.
