The Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers will face each other for the second time this season. The Panthers got the better of the Falcons in their first meeting in Week 8, downing them in a defensive battle 19-13.

Despite both teams holding a losing record at 5-7, they are still well within the playoff race. They sit only one game behind both the Washington Football Team and the San Francisco 49ers, who are both sitting at 6-6.

The winner of this weekend's NFC South battle will firmly entrench itself in the hunt for a wildcard spot, while the loser will have a big hill to climb if they want to sniff the NFL postseason.

Falcons vs. Panthers Prediction and Pick

The Falcons MO is clear at this point of the season. They're fully capable of beating teams that are on their level, but will get blown out by actual contenders due to simply not having the skill or talent to keep up with them. I'd consider the Panthers to be on the Falcons level, so it should be a competitive game.

Everyone welcomed back Cam Newton, expecting him to immediately be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL as if he wasn't abhorrent under Bill Belichick's offense last season, one that is thriving with a rookie quarterback this year. He went 5-for-21 for 92 yards and two interceptions against the Dolphins in Week 12. If PJ Walker starts, it won't be much better, he went 5-for-10 for 87 yards and an interception.

The Panthers defense is among the best in the NFL, but without Christian McCaffrey, their offense is anemic.

The Falcons rank higher than the Panthers in yards per play, third down offense, and red zone offense. I think it's going to be a close game between two "average at best" teams, therefore I'll take the team getting the points.

Pick: Falcons +3
