The Calgary Flames head to the Prudential Center in New Jersey to face-off against the Devils on Tuesday night, coming off a win over the Rangers on Monday.

The Flames started the season by losing two in a row but have since bounced back to reel off three straight victories. Calgary is now 3-1-1 with five total points after beating the Red Wings, Capitals, and Rangers all on the road.

The Devils come into this home game with three wins on the season but at 7th in the Metropolitan Division with just six points to show for their efforts. This is because two of their three wins have come during overtime. The Devils will not only have the home-ice advantage, but are also coming off two full days’ rest. Meanwhile, the flames are in the second half of a back-to-back on the road.

Flames vs. Devils Prediction and Pick

One aspect of this Devils team that is very attractive to me is the fact that six different players are tied with the team lead in points. I like well-rounded teams who “share the wealth” and the Devils are looking like that type of team just four games into the season. In contrast to the Flames, who are led by Elias Lindholm with six points off six goals, the Devils have been a team with multiple threats. Not to mention that five other players have two points each.

I did really like Calgary’s performance against the Rangers last night where they came in and beat New York at home 5-1. Andrew Mangiapane netted two goals and Jacob Markstrom stopped 28 of 29 shots to help the Flames to their third straight win.

These two teams match up quite well and this early in the season this game is almost a toss-up to predict. The Flames have a bit more momentum heading into tonight but are also on the wrong end of a road trip against a fully rested home team. I think that this early in the season, that rest advantage might not be as much of a factor as usual, and it is hard to ignore the Flames’ hot streak.
