The Florida State Seminoles, riding a three-game winning streak, are heading to Memorial Stadium in Week 9 to take on the Clemson Tigers. It is the first time the Seminoles have won three games in a row since 2017. While Florida State is still just 3-4 on the year, it has momentum heading into its game against Clemson. 

Clemson is having the opposite of good fortune this season, and look nothing like the team most of us have come to know over the last decade. The Tigers are coming off their third loss of the season, and fell to second in the ACC Atlantic division.

Florida State vs. Clemson Prediction and Pick

While the Tigers’ defense is still playing strong football, their offense has really let them down. The defense is Top-10 in points per game allowed but, their offense is 121st in the same category. Math isn’t my best subject, but I believe winning games will be hard if you average only 15.2 points per game.

Even worse, Clemson has somehow gone 0-7 against the spread this season. It hasn't been particularly close to covering, with the closest the Tigers came to covering was a 46 point win against a 51 point spread. They have failed to cover by a total of 76.5 points in their seven attempts this year.

Seriously, how can you trust this team to bounce back after the disaster they have so far endured?

Then we have the Seminoles, who are on a three-game win streak. While it's clear that this team still needs work, winning three in a row after dropping your first four straight takes some grit. Those games against Syracuse, UNC, and UMass were no cakewalks either. They completely dominated UMass, winning by 56 as 35-point favorites. 

Clearly, we have two teams heading in opposite directions. And while I will admit that, on paper, Clemson is a better team, the Tigers are in a bad spot all around. I would love to bet on the outright upset but I think Clemson’s defense is still too good to get got by the Seminoes. I think an ATS win for Florida State is the right side for this matchup.
