The No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels are looking to move to 3-0 in the 2022-23 season on Tuesday and grab their first win against the spread when they take on the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs led by as many as 13 in their season opener against Mountain West opponent, Colorado State, but they ultimately fell short losing by two. Gardner-Webb is 0-2 on the season, and it makes sense since the team lost its top two scorers from last season.

UNC returns several key players from the team that made the national title game last season including Armando Bacot, Leaky Black, RJ Davis and Caleb Love.

The Tar Heels have looked a little rusty to start this season, failing to cover in both of their games, but they still have won both by double-digits.

With a massive spread in this game against Gardner-Webb, can we trust the Heels to cover?

Gardner-Webb vs. North Carolina Prediction and Pick

It’s hard to tell if this Gardner-Webb team is going to be as good as last year’s after losing D’Maurian Williams and Lance Terry in the offseason, but transfer Quest Aldridge should help make up for some of the scoring that the team lost.

That being said, the Runnin’ Bulldogs were an average team last season, going 18-13 overall and finishing second in its division in the Big South.

I’m not a huge fan of backing any underdog with UNC’s talent, but the Heels are struggling to cover, allowing 86 points in their last game.

The Heels have a ton of offensive firepower from the inside and outside, and I think they’ll have their way with a Gardner-Webb team that allowed 86 points to Stephen F. Austin in its last game.

The OVER is my best bet for this matchup, as UNC could push around 80-90 points, and the Runnin’ Bulldogs have shown they can compete, as evidenced by their matchup with Colorado State, so they should be able to take this over home.
