George Kittle over Darren Waller? Vegas Disagrees with Latest Madden Ratings
By Ben Heisler
As the countdown to the NFL season continues from training camps all over the league, an annual topic of debate continues to come from the release of the Madden NFL video game player ratings.
Some players recognize it as a form of celebration, while others use it as bulletin board material to prove the ratings adjustors that they got it wrong.
Earlier on Wednesday, the EA Sports staple released their ratings for the top 10 tight ends in the game. Headlining the list was Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whose rating of 99 puts him in an elusive club with players like Rams DE Aaron Donald and Packers WR Davante Adams.
The odds at WynnBET reflect Kelce's prestigious ratings, placing him amongst the top 8 receivers in the NFL to lead the league in receiving yards at +1300. Kelce led all tight ends with 1,416 receiving yards while tying Robert Tonyan of the Packers for the lead in touchdowns.
After Kelce, the discussion starts to get interesting.
George Kittle vs. Darren Waller
The Madden ratings team selected 49ers tight end George Kittle ahead of Darren Waller of the Raiders, ranking the following tight ends 96 and 93 respectively. So how do the odds in Vegas stack up relative to Madden?
Waller, is actually projected at WynnBET to have more receiving yards and catch more touchdowns than Kittle. Waller is listed at +3000 to lead the league in yards ahead of Kittle at +5000.
The Raiders tight end also wallops Kittle's projections for touchdowns; coming in at +3000 odds to lead the league compared to +7500 for Kittle. For comparison's sake, Kittle is lumped in the same touchdown conversation with T.J. Hockenson, Rob Gronkowski, Mike Gesicki, and even Dawson Knox.
Who Should I Take Between Kittle or Waller?
While fantasy leagues will be asking this debate all throughout draft season, the better bet is to side with the upside in Kittle.
The 49ers defense is expected to take a step back with longtime Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh taking the head coaching position with the Jets, leading the 49ers to likely rely on their passing game more frequently. If Kittle is healthy, he is as talented as Kelce, so the value bet for Kittle at far higher odds could make for a very intriguing futures bet.
