Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina Prediction and Odds for College Football Week 12 (Drake Maye, Heisman Contender?)
By Reed Wallach
North Carolina has emerged as a sleeper to potentially crash the College Football Playoff as a one loss conference champion.
If the Tar Heels hold serve over the final two games of the regular season and defeat Clemson in the ACC Championship game, the Tar Heels will be in the discussion for a CFP bid as a one loss Power 5 conference champion. The team hosts a banged up Georgia Tech team on Saturday in Week 12 in hopes of continuing to build momentum into the postseason.
Further, it's an opportunity for quarterback Drake Maye to build his Heisman Trophy campaign with some added stats in a likely blowout. Here's the odds for this ACC meeting and our best bet:
Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina Odds, Spread and Total
Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina Betting Trends
- North Carolina is 2-4-1 against the spread (ATS) this season as a favorite, including 1-3-1 as a favorite of a touchdown or more
- Georgia Tech is 4-3 ATS as an underdog this season
- North Carolina has gone oVER in four of seven games as a favorite
Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina Prediction and Pick
Georgia Tech's quarterback situation is in a dire condition now as the team will be down their starter Jeff Sims and now their backup Zach Pyron, who broke his clavicle last weekend against Miami. Further, the other used backup this season, Zach Gibson, was only available in case of emergency last week. If he can't go QB duties will likely be on Clemson Taisun Phommachanh.
Trying to forecast the Georgia Tech offense is tough given all the questions at quarterback, but we do know what we will see from Maye and the Heels offense.
The quarterback is responsible for nearly 4,000 all purpose yards and 39 touchdowns this season as he and future first round pick JoshDowns have created one of the best offenses in the country. The team is inside the top 15 in nearly all statistical catgories including yards per play (10th) and explosive pass rate (15th)
With the Tar Heels ability to score, they are averaging more than three points per drive, and are scoring touchdowns on 75% of red zone drives, they should be able to cruise into the 40's and clear their team total. While not available just yet, the Tar Heels team total is projected at 42 and I'll back the over with GT likely prone to mistakes all game.
LEAN: North Carolina Team Total OVER 42
