Georgia vs. Clemson Betting Odds: Total Officially Released
By Peter Dewey
The college football season is approaching quickly and WynnBET is the first operator to provide totals for Weeks 0 and 1 of the College Football season.
One of the biggest matchups in Week 1 of the 2021 season is between the Clemson Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs, and WynnBET has set the total at 50.5 with the over (-110) and under (-110) set as a pick'em.
Dabo Swinney’s Clemson squad is a 3.0-point favorite in the first game in the post-Trevor Lawrence era and has -160 odds on the moneyline to beat Georgia (+140).
D.J. Uiagalelei will be taking the reins as the Clemson quarterback in 2021 after he completed 78-of-117 passes for 914 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions over 10 games (two starts) last season.
With Georgia losing four of its top defensive backs from last season, Uiagalelei may be able to take advantage of a normally strong defense. Georgia was 18th in the country last season in opponent points per game at 20.0, but it is expected to show some regression based on its win projection for this year.
WynnBET has Georgia’s win projection set at 10.5. With the NCAA returning to its normal 12-game schedule, that means oddsmakers could see the Bulldogs dropping multiple games in 2021. With Clemson up in Week 1, Georgia and quarterback JT Daniels have a make-or-break week upon them as soon as the season starts.
The total being set at 50.5 is a tough one for bettors, as Clemson also had a solid defensive unit last season allowing just 22.0 points per game. Still, the Tigers averaged 43.0 points per game themselves (fourth in the country), and Georgia wasn’t too bad either at 32.3 points per contest.
Something has to give, and with Clemson losing Lawrence and Travis Etienne to the NFL, it’s possible that both teams could find themselves on the lower side of the projection in Week 1.
