Giants 2023 Super Bowl Odds Suggest Daniel Jones Is Goner After Next Season
By Matt De Saro
As we say goodbye to the 2021-22 NFL season we are left with a ton of questions heading into the next campaign.
One team that has a lot of soul searching to do is the New York Giants after completing their second straight four-win season in the last three years. Things have steadily gone downhill for the franchise after their second improbable Super Bowl run in 2011. Aside from 11 wins in 2016, the Giants have barely remained afloat some years and pretty much drowned in others. Now, after totaling 17 wins in their last three seasons, the Giants head into 2023 with a whole lot of question marks and odds to win the Super Bowl at +10000 (bet $100 to profit $10,000) at WynnBET. I am wondering why their odds aren’t in line with the Lions and Texans at +15000 or the Jets at +20000.
So, as one of the biggest longshots of the season, do the Giants have any chance at all to win? After finishing under .500 for the fifth straight year it's hard to imagine a world where a move exists that would even get them into the playoffs. Their lack of success can be hung mostly on their offense which dealt with injuries and poor play on a weekly basis. The team has a stable of high-caliber offensive players such as Squon Barkley, Kenney Golladay, and Kadarious Toney to rely on.
The problem is, the trio was rarely on the field together due to injuries. Barkley has been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL since he was drafted No. 2 overall in 2018. A lot of this has to do with injuries that limited him to 16 games in his first two years. This season, Barkley finally played almost all the Giants’ games. The problem, however, is that he scored two touchdowns and had just 593 yards, putting him in 43rd and 38th place respectively. He had just one game over 100 yards and didn't score a touchdown after Week 4.
The Giants are back in a similar situation under center as well and have to decide which fork in the road to take. One way sees them stick with Daniel Jones under center after investing a No. 6 pick on him in 2019. The problem with this route is that Jones has been regressing after a solid rookie campaign that saw him go over 3,000 yards and throw for 24 touchdowns. According to John Mara, the team president, the Giants are not giving up on Jones and put a lot of the blame on the organization and not the players. As a Giants fan, this feels too close to home to predict accurately but I think Mara keeps that promise and rolls with Jones for at least the beginning of next season.
