The red-hot Atlanta Braves cooled off a bit over the weekend in Chicago losing two of three to a fairly weak Cubs team. Tonight they are back in action against the Giants for Game 3 of their four-game series. San Francisco took the opener with a modest 2-1 win only to see a total of 22 runs scored in a Game 2 loss to the Braves.

The one takeaway so far from this series is that these two teams are very well matched. Both games in this series so far ended within two runs and this game should prove to be equally tight.

I already took the Giants as my underdog of the day in this game, so let’s spice things up and find a bet on the total.

Giants vs. Braves Prediction and Pick

Despite how well both of these teams have been playing this month, neither is cashing a ton of OVER bets in recent action. This is particularly true for the Giants who are 2-10-3 O/U in their last 15 games overall. This is interesting considering the Giants also rank fourth in the  MLB in runs scored per game. But, things have been slowing down at the plate for the Giants lately.

Aside from last night’s 12-run explosion, this team scored five or more runs just once in their previous six games.

I’m a little concerned about Charlie Morton in this spot, as I pointed out in my underdog piece. But, I don’t exactly expect him to get blown up today. I just don’t think the Braves should be favored. But Morton does have a career .193 batting average against the current Giants’ lineup.

Carlos Rodon will start for the Giants as he looks to grow his 6-4 record. Rodon boasts a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP this year and is tied for 6th in the MLB with 91 strikeouts.

I think this game will be tight both on the W/L side and on the O/U side. But, I’m willing to bet that the starters battle well enough to keep this game UNDER nine runs when all is said and done.

Pick: UNDER 9 (-120)
