Giants vs. Nationals Prediction and Odds for Friday, April 22 (Bet San Francisco as Road Favorites)
By Reed Wallach
The San Francisco Giants continue their east coast road trip with a trip to the Nation's Capital for a weekend series.
Last season, the Giants had the best record in all of baseball, and do look to be a contender once again, but will look to strengthen their record against the 6-9 Nationals, who are led by NL MVP betting favorite Juan Soto.
Here are the odds for Friday's matchup from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Giants vs. Nationals Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Giants: -1.5 (+125)
- Nationals: +1.5 (-155)
Moneyline:
- Giants: -122
- Nationals: +112
Total: 9 (Over -110/Under -110)
Giants vs. National Prediction and Pick
I'm not going to overthink this and take the elite team as a small favorite against a National League bottom feeder.
The Giants are the far superior team and will be taking on Patrick Corbin of the Nationals, who is far from his All-Star form years ago. Last season, the lefty posted a 5.82 ERA and this season it's at 7.50. Yes, he has a FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) in the mid 3's, but his career trajectory is simply not an even average pitcher anymore.
Even if the Giants offense can't take advantage considering they are bottom third in the bigs in on-base percentage, I trust their staff to limit the Nats. Sam Long will start for the Giants in an opener role. While he is far from elite as well, Washington is the 6th worst hitting team against lefties, so he is in line for a good start to this game.
After that, it's the Giants baseball best 1.99 bullpen ERA taking care of a porous Washington offense. This price is too short, I'll play the road favorite.
LEAN: Giants -122
