Week 1 of the NFL preseason begins with a matchup between the New York Giants and New England Patriots on Thursday night.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll will get his first true chance to show what he can do as a head coach, and he will have to face one of his mentors and arguably the greatest coach of all time in Bill Belichick.

Luckily for Daboll and company, they won’t be facing the Patriots starters in this matchup.

The Pats are fresh off a trip to the playoffs while the Giants are aiming to turn the corner on the rebuild. Here are the latest odds from WynnBET for this preseason matchup:

Giants vs. Patriots Odds, Spread and Total

Spread

  • Giants -3 (-115)
  • Patriots +3 (-105)

Moneyline

  • Giants -165
  • Patriots +135

Over/Under

  • 34.5 (Over -110 / Under -110)

Giants vs. Patriots Odds, Spread and Total Movement in NFL Preseason Week 1

There has been some line movement in this game, as the Giants were two-point favorites earlier in the week before it was announced that New England would be sitting most of its starters.

That has moved the Giants from -135 to -165 on the moneyline, while the total has risen half a point from 34 to 34.5.

Giants vs. Patriots Best Bet and Prediction

Earlier this week, our own Josh Yourish took the Patriots as underdogs to win this game, but I’m going to lean in the other direction here.

It wasn’t expected that either team would play its starter for a significant amount of the game, but now with the Patriots going straight to the backups, I see value in the Giants to cover the three points here.

New York will likely get a long look at veteran backup QB Tyrod Taylor, who may end up getting snaps over Daniel Jones in 2022 if the former first-round pick struggles, and I’m intrigued by Daboll adding his own offense to this team.

The Patriots’ offense has been downright awful in camp, and I don’t expect it to be any better with the second and third string players running the show.

Give me the Giants in Daboll’s preseason debut.

Lean: Giants -3 (-115)
