As the soccer world moves on from the Euros, the attention shifts to the other side of the world and the Gold Cup. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is a competition throughout North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

On Sunday, the United States Men’s National Team is playing Canada with the top spot of the group on the line. Both Canada and the United States have six points after two wins against Haiti and Martinique.

The United States come into the match as sizable favorites against the Canadians, with the odds set at -140 on the moneyline. Canada is a +375 underdog on the moneyline.

For the United States, this is the first step to getting back to a competitive state on the international level. The USMNT failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2018 and then failed to qualify for the Olympics, which start this week. That was the third consecutive Olympic bid the Americans failed to qualify for.

However, the Gold Cup performance has given hope and life into the program moving forward. The United States has already clinched its berth in the knockout stages, but a win would give them a perfect record in the group stage and a better seed.

The United States is coming off a dominant performance against Martinique, which they won 6-1. Canada also dominated its last opponent, winning 4-1 against Haiti.

Canada is trying to make a deep run in the tournament for the first time since 2007 when it came in third place.

Although both teams are guaranteed to advance, Sunday will be a stepping stone to getting back on track.
