Tonight, we get Steph Curry and the Warriors against Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets and every bag of popcorn needs to be popped. The Nets are 3.0-point favorites at home against the 11-2 Warriors.

Both teams started in the top 5 of the NBA Finals odds, but have since moved to the top two at WynnBET Sportsbook. The Nets are still the favorite (+270), but the Warriors have moved all the way up to second (+550). Tonight will be an early test for both teams and a possible Finals preview.

If the Nets and the Warriors got to the Finals, it would be Durant and Curry on the biggest stage with all the legacy points on the line. Tonight’s game is going to be and our own Peter Dewey has you covered with a preview. However, Reed Wallach and myself are more interested in what this matchup would look like in June.

Golden State Warriors (+550)

If these teams get to the Finals and Kyrie Irving isn’t playing, I’m taking the Warriors to beat the Nets. Golden State is one of the best rebounding teams in the league and is having an amazing defensive season. The Warriors are allowing 101.8 points per game (3rd-best) and are the best team in the league when it comes to defensive efficiency. Golden State's supporting cast has stepped up and isn't even fully healthy yet.

Let's not also forget about the pending Klay Thompson return. If Thompson is able to bring either his elite shooting or great defense to the table, the Warriors will look very similar to the Golden State teams that went to the Finals five years in a row. With Draymond Green still a defensive master and Steph Curry still being the mobile marksman that he is, the Nets wouldn't be able to chase him around and key in on him.

Don't get me wrong, the series would be great and could even go seven, but I think the Nets have serious rebounding issues and possible problems with their depth. As we saw last year, that could be a serious issue if Kevin Durant isn't dropping 49-point triple doubles every game.

Brooklyn Nets (+270)

Since November 1st, the Nets are 6-1 with the sixth highest offensive rating and sixth best defensive rating. The team has the third best net rating over that span despite being without Kyrie Irving and a less than 100% James Harden.

Harden is starting to find his rhythm alongside Kevin Durant, who is breaking the brains of basketball fans watching him. Durant is leading the league in scoring with 29.6 points per game on 58/42/84 shooting splits.

If Kyrie is to return, the Nets are head and shoulders above the rest of the league. The upside of him returning this season is worth the bet alone, but the roster around the superstars is tantalizing as well. The addition of Patty Mills has given Steve Nash a more reliable bench threat as well as the return of LaMarcus Aldridge to take some of the scoring creation from Durant and Harden during points of the game. Role players such as Joe Harris and Bruce Brown have begun to settle into their roles from last season and veterans Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, and DeAndre' Bembry provide some of the finer details on the floor.

Harden has had some concerning outings early in the season, but he has also begun to round into form, namely on Friday night when he scored 39 points in a win over the Pelicans. While he is drawing fouls at a low rate, less than six per game, he is starting to adjust and find his burst.

The Nets have shot up to the top of the league in advanced metrics despite Irving being out and Harden far from his best. Taking the Nets gives you the upside of this trio all being on the floor together with Durant playing the best ball of his career, but the downside is that you still have arguably the best team in the league with the best player in the world, which is not that bad.

Don't let the Warriors hot start take you off the scent of Brooklyn, the best team in the league.
